A recent letter

I ordered a mystery box to share with my partner on our recent kinda vacation... I love how it was wrapped simply with brown paper and tied with twine...

Icelandic Flake Sea Salt

Title

This is perhaps the world's only salt produced using only geothermal power, evaporating the crystals using the heat from natural geysers. All electricity used at the facility come from a nearby geothermal power-plant.

This saltworks was established by Bjorn Steinar Jonsson, Yngvi Eiriksson, and Garðar Stefansson: three self-described foodies that brought back the 240 years old tradition of salt making in Iceland.

The salt is produced in a small bay in the peninsula of Reykjanes (an aspiring Geopark applying for membership in the European Geopark network). The peninsula has an incredible diversity of volcanic and geothermal activity and is the only place in the world where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge is visible above sea level).

    Ingredients: Sea salt

    One of my favorites!

I was heartbroken when I discovered fear the NYC Meadow closed. So I immediately ordered online, including another jar of this Icelandic Flake - one of my top five Meadow salts. The taste is crisp, and the flake texture adds to the culinary experience. I love this salt on just about anything, it’s probably the most versatile one in my arsenal.

Couldn't find in stores, happy to have such an excellent product

This was my first Meadows order and I was very happy with the products received. The flake salt we've used on homemade ballpark pretzels (and the mustard salt is great there also) and buns with everything seed topping plus we have plans for focaccia soon. This is a reasonably sized light weight flake that sits on top of bread during and after baking very nicely and imparts a great flavor. We've really enjoyed it.
