Meadowlings After Dark - Ideal date nights according to our shop keepers
From Portland’s saunas and soaking pools to dancing the night away in Brooklyn, here’s what 3 of our shop keepers have to say about their ideal date night out in the city!
Miguel in NYC
If money were no object & you could design your perfect date night in New York, how would the night unfold?
I like the Brooklyn vibe so we can start at Olmsted for dinner & drinks. Then to Franklin Park or Bed-Vyne to boogie down!
Any hidden gems (restaurants, bars, venues?) we should know about?
Via Carota, is a women-owned restaurant in the west village and Spicy Village in China Town has the best dumplings. Employees Only, Apotheke, The Mulberry Bar, are 3 of the best high-end cocktail lounges I’ve been to.
What kind of atmosphere are you drawn to?
Chill & Sophisticated
Are you a creature of habit? Or do you like to explore?
Both. I like my regular bar person AND discovering new venues. NYC is big and ever changing.
Describe your go-to date night attire.
Black, black and blue. Deep V-neck black T-shirt, blue pants, black dress shoes, sporty watch, a scarf, slight make-up around the eyes.
Christiana in Portland
If money were no object & you could design your perfect date night in Portland, how would the night unfold?
Start the day with a sauna sesh at Loyly. Have lunch somewhere delicious. Take a stroll around the neighborhood, pet all the cats. Dinner somewhere with dim lighting and sumptuous food. Catch an impromptu show somewhere unexpected. End the night with a nightcap at a dive bar and shoot some pool.
Any hidden gems (restaurants, bars, venues?) we should know about?
Bellwether Bar for their gorgeous antique interior and dreamy summertime patio with great drinks and small bites. Rum Club for the best cocktails in PDX, killer music, intimate space and great staff.
What kind of atmosphere are you drawn to?
Moody, dim lighting. Warm wood interiors. Relaxed yet vibrant.
Are you a creature of habit? Or do you like to explore?
Both! I love to retreat to the comfort of my habitual haunts but exploring is so rewarding and necessary to keep things fresh.
Describe your go-to date night attire.
Something cuter than my day to day attire but still comfortable as who knows where the night will take us!
Crissy in Portland
If money were no object & you could design your perfect date night in Portland, how would the night unfold?
I am dreaming of summer so an ideal date night commences after a day off paddle-boarding on the Willamette, a couple drinks with friends out back at the Bible Club, peel off and go to dinner with my man at Oma’s Hideaway, a good long soaking pool/cold plunge session at Knot Springs and cozy up in bed with Rupaul’s Drag Race. I think it’s less about money and more about the time and space.
Any hidden gems (restaurants, bars, venues?) we should know about?
I love Baby Ketten Klub for karaoke. The owner is a longtime KJ and is very serious about their craft. He’s produced songs himself that he hasn’t been able to find anywhere else. Drinks are good, there’s guilty pleasure vegan food and it’s got an old Portland feeling. I love it.
What kind of atmosphere are you drawn to?
Always in search of a restaurant full of dark cozy booths, a martini, something salty… and probably fried.
Are you a creature of habit? Or do you like to explore?
Both? My husband is vegetarian so we end up going to a lot the same veg friendly/vegan restaurants. Akadi, Obon Shokudo, Mirisata, Lilla, Norah etc., but we're always looking for new options.
Describe your go-to date night attire.
Ha! I worked in the fashion industry in NYC for my 20’s and I think I hit my lifetime quota for caring long ago. It’s also Portland, wherever you go there will be someone in khaki cargos.
