Brazilian Sal Grosso is a translucent white traditional sea salt harvested from the South Atlantic Coast of Brazil. This salt is made by the slow solar evaporation of sea water, and contains many of the trace minerals naturally found in the ocean, including magnesium and calcium. Its rock hard, wonky, melted meteor-like crystals are fresh-tasting but with a touch of hotness.
Left whole, the intensity of the salt is too much for all but the boldest of food - think thick slabs of steak spit-fired rare with a few mountain herbs over a wood fire under starlight. But ground fine, it is more pussycat than mountain lion. As a delicate, nearly powder-fine crystal from your salt mill, Brazilian Sal Grosso's spicy brilliance shines forth on sautèed vegetables, lean meats like veal and venison, and on traditionally prepared foods like bruschetta with pickled mushrooms, tapenade, anchovies, and capers.
