Field Trip to Sokol Blosser Vineyards

by Mark Bitterman

If I could take you on a field trip to show off my favorite places and people in the area, Sokol Blosser Vineyards is one place we'd have to go! Since I can't take you there myself right now, I've asked the Sokol Blossers to share with you a little about themselves. Read on, and I hope you'll fall in love with them too.

If you’ve tried Bitterman’s Pinot Noir Salt, then you’ve tried a little taste of my family’s Pinot Noir from the Dundee Hills of Oregon. I’ve been friends with Mark and a big fan of The Meadow for years. Besides being a pinot-lover, I’m also a salt-lover. While my go-to is the Fleur de Sel, I’m obviously partial to the Pinot Noir Salt made with my Pinot Noir and also the Black Truffle Sea Salt.  As many of us having been spending more time in the kitchen lately and taking a greater interest in the stories behind where our food comes from, I wanted to share with you my family’s story.

My parents, Susan & Bill, started our vineyard in the Dundee Hills in 1971 by clearing and planting 5-acres. Undeterred by the fact that they had no winemaking, viticulture, or business experience, they were among the early pioneers of winemaking in the Willamette Valley. They worked tirelessly to learn how to farm winegrapes, make wine, and convince the world that Oregon was an exceptional winegrowing region. In 2008, my parents retired and my brother, Alex, and I took over the business. As second-generation stewards of our land and business, we are proud to build upon what our parents and the other pioneers started. Today, nearly 50 years later, we farm more than 100-acres of winegrapes organically and are a certified B Corp.

As we slowly and safely start to reopen our tasting room, we hope that you will have the opportunity to come visit us at our beautiful Estate in the Dundee Hills -- to enjoy the view of the rolling vineyards and try the amazing wines that only come from the hard work and skill of the hands that made it.

In the meantime, as a friend of Mark, we wanted to offer you a special opportunity. Save 15% off purchases and enjoy $20 flat rate express shipping through June 30, 2020. Use coupon code MEADOW and choose express shipping at checkout.

Cheers!
