A century-old idea gets a reboot. Malt powder and warm milk were once popular with Antarctic explorers looking for an energy boost. Soma's creation is an ode to the double chocolate malted of the '50s: a nostalgic, comforting and creamy drinking chocolate. Don't be shy with how to indulge - melt in marshmallows, pour on pancakes or eat it straight up. Perfect for explorations of any kind.

It's easy to make. For 2 servings...

Bring 1/2 cup of water to a boil in small saucepan. Add 6 tablespoons of dry mix. Reduce heat to a simmer and whisk until thick and smooth. This is your liquid chocolate.

Serve 1/4 cup of liquid chocolate, as is‚ in a shot glass for an intense shot.

For a traditional mug, add 3/4 cup of warm milk or hot water to 1/4 cup of liquid chocolate.

Ingredients: cocoa nibs, milk powder, organic cane sugar, barley malt, arrowroot flour, salt

Net weight: 2.65oz / 75g

Made in Toronto, Canada!

Soma’s first space was in a tiny corner of a former whisky distillery. They started off roasting and winnowing cacao beans, refining and conching their own chocolate, spinning gelato, baking cookies, making hot chocolates, and producing a line of truffles. (whew!) A small retail portion would fold out during the day, and like a transformer, fold back in at night. It was here that they started meeting a community of very interesting folks with a healthy appetite for great chocolate.

What does SOMA mean?

Soma in Sanskrit means “food of the Gods” By coincidence, Theobroma Cacao which is the Latin name for the cacao tree also means “ food of the Gods”

In Aldous Huxley’s novel, “Brave New World” Soma was the substance that kept everyone in a constant state of bliss. Soma is also referenced in the Rig Veda as being the mysterious plant used to achieve nirvana. To date there is much speculation but no clear consensus on the exact identity of the plant.
