My Salt Block Experience did not end well

I was very excited about my Salt Block and cookbook purchase. I bought it specifically to grill on my stove top. I used it three times before it caught on fire! I googled and researched all the instructions how to heat it, followed it exactly. My block started to crack after use 1. By my third attempt, I made burgers and the grease went through the salt cracks and started a little fire underneath my block. It was pretty alarming. I threw out the block after that. $75 for 3x of use.

Thanks for your feedback - it looks like you also purchased the Salt Block Grilling book, which I wrote for outdoor grilling on a gas or charcoal grill. The one star review noting that it cost $75 for a 3 time use doesn't quite seem accurate, when you consider the book price is in there, and heating instructions for indoor cooking were not followed.

In my book, you can find detailed heating instructions from pages 17 to 24. To heat the block, it is important to follow the instructions closely. Heat on very low for 15 minutes, then medium for 15 minutes, then medium-high for 15 minutes. A salt block can be heated to over 600 degrees Fahrenheit!

These are instructions for heating a salt block on the grill. Heating on the stovetop has slightly directions, which can be found in my Salt Block Cooking book, or here on our website: https://themeadow.com/pages/guide-to-himalayan-salt-blocks

In my book, you can find detailed cleaning instructions also from pages 24 to 25. To clean the block, allow it to cool fully. Wipe with a wet sponge (no soap), then scrub vigorously.

Love this block!

This is my 3rd salt block and I love all 3. I love the larger size block to cook on!

salt block

We have used the salt block 3 times on our gas grill. On the 3rd use, the block broke into 2 uneven pieces. We can still use the large piece but that limits the size of the item we are preparing for a meal. We noticed that it took a long time to preheat the block. We did buy a CDN laser thermometer to check the temperature of the block and the food.
