Sel Gris de l'Île de Ré French Gros Sel Sea Salt

Title

Harvested from the Ile of Ré off the West coast of France, this sel gris is harvested according to the traditional methods introduced by Cistercian monks in the 13th century. Call coarse salt or gros sel in France, the large, moist crystals are rich in minerals and boast a clean, briny flavor.  Event though the crystals are coarse, their residual moisture makes them supple and pliant for a lovely satisfying crunch.  This gros sel gris is ideal for salt crusted fish recipes and for finishing grilled meats.  Roasted root vegetables tossed with sel gris ain't bad either!

    Sel gris de l'Ile de Ré

    I spent time in a house in the 1960's on the Ile de Ré right next to a
    saulnier and his pools and salt piles. We always said, "Le sel de Ré, c'est la
    santé". So glad to find it at The Meadow.

    The salt is excellent and shipping packaging was very adequate. I bought this as a gift and was disappointed that the label as pictured on website was replaced by a "substitute " label that appears to be a 1 inch by 4 inch mailing label. The ink was smeared as well. I lowered my rating one star because the salt is expensive and it's not as nice as my other salt orders from The Meadow.
